Beat the Heat #1

Beat the Heat #1 Design Template

If you’re looking for plants that are tough, resilient, and low-maintenance, look no further! This template is full of hardy plants that do well in a number of conditions. Most of them actively improve the soil in which they’re planted and are very water-wise. And while these plants do form an excellent team, they each have individual qualities that bring beauty and visual excitement to your space. We’ll go over each component of this template below.

Ornamental Grass

Grasses are not often given the credit they deserve. They bring year-round shape and texture to your yard, they can thrive in a vast range of temperatures and environments, and they can grow in (and improve) almost any type of soil.  Many grass varieties are drought-tolerant and can also prevent soil erosion and water runoff. They’re incredibly easy to care for, come in all shapes and sizes, and require very little maintenance. Grasses can also help provide shelter for pollinators and other wildlife in your yard–which then increases flowers and fruit yields, too.

Daylily

Daylilies are also great at preventing soil erosion and they spread easily, which helps inhibit weed growth. They’re also versatile and can thrive in many different soil types. Butterflies and hummingbirds are attracted to their blooms, which also brings beauty and brightness to your yard! Daylilies are also incredibly easy to care for and come in many different colors and varieties, so you can choose whatever fits best with your landscape design.

Rock ‘n Low ‘Boogie Woogie’ Stonecrop

This sedum hybrid from Proven Winners is amazingly hardy. It, too, can grow in a vast range of hardiness zones and environmental conditions. It thrives in poor to average soil, little to no supplemental watering, and needs no fertilizer. In addition to being low maintenance, it’s also a cheerful, charming plant! It’s a groundcover plant with green and cream variegated leaves and small yellow flowers. A beautiful addition to any garden bed or planter!

Dolce Cherry Truffles Coral Bells

This beautiful perennial plant does well in full or part shade. It brings a depth and richness of color. The leaves are heavily ruffled, it produces light pink flowers, and it creates a gorgeous color contrast with the other plants in this template. Coral bells are also pollinator-friendly. They’re easy plants to care for and are incredibly versatile–both in the soils they thrive in and the places you can plant them–pots, planter beds, and shade gardens.

This template contains a variety of plants and colors, each with great versatility and hardiness. They’ll thrive in a variety of climates, soils, and temperatures, all while bringing real beauty to your yard. This pairing of plants also attracts and provides shelter for pollinators and is super low-maintenance for you... a real win-win!
