About Western White Pine

Pinus monticola, commonly known as the Western white pine, is a large, pyramidal conifer native to the mountains of western North America. It features fine-textured, blue-green needles in bundles of five and long, slender, resinous cones. This fast-growing tree thrives in full sun and well-drained, acidic soils. Historically valued for its high-quality timber, it is also the state tree of Idaho. It is susceptible to white pine blister rust but remains a key forest species.
