About Honey Mesquite

Prosopis glandulosa, commonly known as Honey Mesquite, is a graceful deciduous tree or large shrub native to the southwestern United States and Mexico. It is characterized by a rounded, spreading crown with contorted, drooping branches and bright green, feathery foliage. Armed with sharp thorns, it produces fragrant yellow-green flower spikes in spring, followed by edible seed pods. This nitrogen-fixing species is exceptionally heat and drought-tolerant, relying on a deep taproot to thrive in arid conditions while providing filtered shade.
