About 'Miss Pearl' Butterfly Bush

‘Miss Pearl’ is a compact hybrid butterfly bush developed at North Carolina State University, with upright spikes of crisp white, slightly ruffled flowers. It grows about 4–5 feet tall and wide, blooms over a long summer-to-fall season, and is suited to sunny borders, specimen plantings or a flowering hedge. ## Flowers and use The flowers have a honey-like fragrance and provide nectar for visiting bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Green leaves with silvery undersides form a dense shrub. [Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/buddleia/miss-pearl-butterfly-bush-buddleia-x) describes the exact cultivar’s white flowers, scent and 4–5-foot size; [North Carolina State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/buddleja-miss-pearl/) identifies its hybrid parentage, ruffled flower form and pollinator value. ## Siting Choose full sun and well-drained soil. The NCSU Extension profile describes drought tolerance after establishment and notes that stems may die to the ground in colder areas, then regrow from the crown. In suitable climates the shrub is listed for USDA zones 5–9. ## Maintenance Deadheading is not needed for continued flowering. Where stems survive winter, North Carolina State Extension suggests occasional moderate spring pruning to maintain a compact shape. In colder gardens, wait for new growth before removing winter-damaged stems.
