About 'Sekimori' Weeping Japanese Maple

‘Sekimori’ is a green, dissected-leaf Japanese maple with a low, arching form and distinctive white striations on its bark. Its shape is often more prostrate than pendulous, making it useful where a broad, layered silhouette is wanted. ## Landscape use and seasonal interest Use this cultivar as a specimen in a small garden, near a path, or in a container where its finely divided foliage and bark can be appreciated. Maple Ridge Nursery describes pastel-yellow fall foliage, with orange tones more likely in sunnier conditions. The bark markings also contribute interest after leaf drop. See [Maple Ridge Nursery](https://japanesemaplesandconifers.com/collections/green-japanese-maples/products/acer-palmatum-sekimori). ## Size and siting Published sizes differ: Maple Ridge lists about 3–4 ft tall by 5–7 ft wide at ten years, while Horticopia lists 5–7 ft tall by 9–12 ft wide. Allow for a wider spread than a compact single-size label suggests. Horticopia lists USDA zones 5B–8A and moist soil; site in sun or partial shade, protecting from drying exposure. See [Horticopia](https://www.horticopia.info/Plants/051/acepal376.html). ## Soil and water Use well-drained soil and keep moisture reasonably consistent, particularly while the tree establishes. ## Maintenance Prune selectively to preserve the natural low arching outline. Avoid routine shearing, which would obscure the cultivar’s branching form.
