‘Curly Lamppost’ is a very narrow, slow-growing Norway maple with green leaves that curl close to the trunk. Its unusual outline and foliage make it a distinctive specimen for a site where the vertical form can be appreciated.
## Form and seasonal interest
[Dancing Oaks Nursery](https://dancingoaks.com/products/acer-platanoides-curly-lamp-post-columnar-norway-maple) describes a stiff, upright pole with dense curled leaves; [Don Schmidt Nursery](https://donschmidtnursery.com/books/maplebook.pdf) calls it similar to, but distinct from, ‘Rezek’. Nursery size reports differ: [Sooner Plant Farm](https://soonerplantfarm.com/plant/maple-norway-curly-lamppost) lists 8–12 ft tall, [Keeping It Green Nursery](https://www.keepingitgreennursery.com/products/acer-platanoides-curly-lamppost-columnar-norway-maple) lists 12 ft, and Dancing Oaks reports 5–7 ft tall by 1 ft wide at ten years, eventually exceeding 15 ft. Sooner and Don Schmidt describe yellow autumn color, though Sooner’s page has a conflicting fall-color entry in its characteristics table. Keeping It Green lists March–April flowers; general Norway maple flowers are yellow-green.
## Siting and soil
Site in sun or partial shade in average, moist, well-drained soil. Preserve room for the tree’s eventual height; no reliable mature spread estimate was found. The USDA zone listings also differ: Keeping It Green gives 4–9, while Sooner gives 5–7. Norway maple cultivars are specially regulated in Minnesota; check local restrictions and control seedlings near natural areas ([Minnesota DNR](https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/terrestrialplants/woody/norwaymaple.html)).
## Maintenance
Water while the tree establishes, then as needed. No cultivar-specific pruning schedule was found; preserve the naturally narrow crown and remove damaged branches when necessary.
