Easy Street Norway Maple

‘Easy Street’ (also sold as ‘Ezestre’) is an upright-pyramidal Norway maple selected as a bud sport of ‘Columnare’; it grows slightly wider and faster than that parent. Its formal crown is used for street planting, with green foliage and yellow fall color. ## Cultivar and seasonal interest The [City of Sandpoint street-tree list](https://www.sandpointidaho.gov/media/411) identifies ‘Ezestre’ or ‘Easy Street’ as a bud sport of ‘Columnare’ and describes it as faster-growing, slightly wider, pyramidal, and yellow in fall. [Kansas State University Extension](https://www.maraisdescygnes.k-state.edu/lawn-garden/popular-lawn-garden-publications/trees-shrubs-and-woody-vines/ShadeAndOrnamentalTreesForKansasmf2688.pdf) also describes an upright-pyramidal form and recommends it as a street tree. Norway maple foliage is dark green and turns yellow in fall; its small yellow-green flowers appear in May, before leaves emerge, according to the [Minnesota DNR](https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/terrestrialplants/woody/norwaymaple.html). Those foliage and flower details are species-level references. ## Siting and mature size Sandpoint lists about 40 ft tall by 20 ft wide. Kansas State University gives a smaller height estimate of 15–20 ft; the [City of Winters master street-tree list](https://d3n9y02raazwpg.cloudfront.net/cityofwinters/a0daa128-8e42-11ee-a93d-0050569183fa-939161aa-a91e-47ce-a302-003b663a2c72-1701994085.pdf) also includes it under the name ‘Easy Street Maple, Ezestre’. Provide room for the larger reported crown. The species tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including textures from sand to clay. In Minnesota, Norway maple and its cultivars are specially regulated; seedlings should be controlled and plantings kept at least 100 yards from natural areas (Minnesota DNR). ## Maintenance Water during establishment and during prolonged dry spells. Keep the naturally pyramidal crown and remove damaged or crossing branches when needed. No cultivar-specific pruning schedule was found.
