About Jordan Full Moon Japanese Maple

Acer shirasawanum 'Jordan' is a small, slow-growing, upright full moon maple whose palmate leaves change from pale orange in spring to lime green in summer and orange-red in autumn. Tiny purple-red flowers open in spring, followed by conspicuous red, winged fruits above the foliage in late summer. ## Landscape Use The bright foliage gives a small garden, sheltered courtyard or woodland edge a changing focal point. Kigi Nursery describes 'Jordan' as an upright, bushy cultivar with yellow-to-lime leaves that hold up well in sun exposure. ## Mature Size The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/190710/acer-shirasawanum-jordan/details) lists a broad eventual height and spread of 2.5–4 m (about 8–13 ft). [Kigi Nursery](https://kiginursery.com/all-plants/deciduous-trees/acer-shirasawanum-jordan-shirasawas-maple/) reports an 8 ft × 4 ft 10-year average; use that as a growth checkpoint rather than a final size estimate. ## Siting and Soil Partial shade in a sheltered position suits this maple. It prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil. Hot, dry air, cold winds and late frost can scorch the leaves; the RHS notes that the species name is also encountered as Acer japonicum 'Jordan'. ## Maintenance Keep the soil evenly moist during establishment and dry periods. Mulch around the root zone in autumn to reduce cold and drying stress. The cultivar profiles do not specify a recurring pruning schedule.
