Moonrise™ is the trade name for Acer shirasawanum 'Munn 001', a distinct seedling selected by Carl Munn from 'Aureum'. Its leaves open carmine-red in spring, shift to chartreuse or yellow-lime in summer, and show orange-yellow-red fall color; the patent describes it as more vigorous and more sun-tolerant than 'Aureum'.
## Landscape Use
Use it as a focal small tree where the changing foliage can be viewed against darker greens. The U.S. plant patent identifies the cultivar denomination as 'MUNN 001'; Moonrise™ is the market name. Its broad, rounded leaves and seasonal color make it useful in a specimen planting or mixed border.
## Mature Size and Siting
[Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery](https://devilmountainnursery.com/acer-shirasawanum-moonrise/) lists mature dimensions of 10–15 ft tall and wide. [Vineland Nurseries](https://vinelandnurseries.com/product/acer-shirasawanum-moonrise/) reports 7 × 5 ft after ten years, a younger-tree estimate. Filtered light to full sun suits the cultivar; it tolerates more sun than 'Aureum' and can also grow in full shade. Provide moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
## Patent
[U.S. plant patent PP16718](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP16718P3/en) was granted on June 27, 2006. The patent describes carmine-red spring leaves, yellow-to-lime summer foliage and vigorous growth.
## Maintenance
Keep soil evenly moist, especially during establishment and warm periods, while maintaining good drainage. Vineland recommends selective pruning only as needed.
