Urban Sunset® Maple

Urban Sunset® maple is a compact tree with a narrow pyramidal to upright oval crown and glossy, dark-green leaves. Introduced by J. Frank Schmidt as the selection ‘JFS-KW187’, it brings deep red autumn foliage and a naturally uniform silhouette to streetscapes and residential gardens. ## Landscape use and seasonal interest The [breeder’s profile](https://jfschmidt.com/all-trees/introductions/urban-sunset-maple/) estimates a landscape size of about 35 feet tall and 20 feet wide and rates it to USDA Zone 5. Its comparatively narrow crown is useful where a broader maple would crowd nearby planting or buildings, but it still needs adequate root space and clearance from overhead utilities.
