About New Vintage™ Red Yarrow

New Vintage™ Red is an upright yarrow with medium red flower clusters and green, fragrant foliage. [Ball/Darwin](https://www.darwinperennials.com/Products/Details/?phid=000406781004463) lists late-spring through autumn flowering, while [Proven Winners](https://serv7.provenwinners.com/plants/achillea/new-vintage-red-yarrow-achillea-millefolium) describes summer and early-fall bloom; the plant can rebloom after spent flowers are cut back. ## Landscape use The tidy habit suits containers, and the cultivar is also listed for cut and dried flowers and mass planting. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers, and the plant is listed as deer resistant. Its red flowers mature to lighter shades. ## Size and siting [Darwin](https://www.darwinperennials.com/Products/Details/?phid=000406781004463) and Proven Winners list a mature height of 26–28 inches and spread of 10–12 inches. [Gulley Greenhouse’s wholesale catalog](https://www.gulleygreenhouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/2025-Gulley-Greenhouse-Wholesale-Catalog.pdf) independently gives the same height. Allow room for the flowering stems above the foliage. The cultivar denomination is ‘Balvinred’; its [plant patent PP25618](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP25618) was granted on June 16, 2015. ## Water and soil Grow in full sun and well-drained soil. Water while the plant establishes; [RHS guidance](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/achillea) notes established yarrow tolerates dry periods. Avoid soil that stays wet. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower heads to keep the planting tidy and encourage repeat bloom. Clear old stems and tidy foliage in spring.
