About Coronation Gold Yarrow

Achillea 'Coronation Gold' is an upright yarrow with flat-topped clusters of deep golden-yellow flowers and fragrant, silvery green foliage. The [Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/95560/achillea-coronation-gold/details) accepts this cultivar name and lists Achillea filipendulina 'Coronation Gold' as a synonym; the [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/achillea-coronation-gold-coronation-gold-yarrow) describes the same yellow-flowered cultivar. ## Landscape use and bloom Use it in sunny flower borders or cut-flower plantings; the Chicago Botanic Garden also lists dried flowers and bedding use. Chicago Botanic Garden's archived plant profile records flowers from May through October, while RHS describes upright stems and large, flat heads of golden-yellow flowers. The RHS profile lists broad ultimate size ranges of 0.5–1 m high and 0.1–0.5 m wide; the garden reports flowering stems about 2–3 feet tall. ## Siting and soil Plant in full sun in moist but well-drained soil. RHS lists chalk, loam, and sand. Chicago Botanic Garden reports the cultivar as sterile, attractive to butterflies, and resistant to deer, rabbits, and drought. Its USDA hardiness range there is 3–8. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and avoid heavy, wet winter soil. Cut back untidy foliage in spring. The RHS Achillea guide recommends deadheading faded flowers and dividing established clumps every three to five years; established yarrows tolerate dry spells in suitable free-draining soil.
