About Desert Eve™ Red Yarrow

Desert Eve™ Red is a compact, red-flowered yarrow with finely divided, aromatic foliage. Syngenta lists an upright habit and flowers from mid-spring through summer, while the Royal Horticultural Society identifies the cultivar as ‘Desred’ and describes it as a clump-forming perennial. ## Garden use and season [Syngenta Flowers](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70017961) groups Red in the Desert Eve™ series, marks it pollinator-friendly, and lists a garden size of 16–20 inches high by 18–24 inches wide. RHS gives a smaller typical height of about 12 inches; size varies with climate and growing conditions. Syngenta recommends full sun and gives mid-spring, late spring, and summer as flowering times. The [RHS cultivar profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/320526/achillea-desert-eve-red-desred-desert-eve-series/details) describes compact mounds with dark red flowerheads and lists borders, gravel gardens, wildlife gardens, and cut flowers as suitable uses. The [U.S. plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP22333P2/en) identifies ‘Desred’ as *Achillea tomentosa × millefolium* (PP 22,333, issued December 13, 2011); Syngenta’s product page labels the crop *Achillea millefolium*, so primary records differ in botanical labeling. ## Siting and water Choose a sunny site with well-drained soil. The [RHS growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/achillea/how-to-grow-achillea) says achilleas tolerate dry or poor soil after establishment, but young plants need watering during dry spells in their first year. Avoid waterlogged ground; yarrow can spread, so leave room or keep its edges in check. Monrovia's [exact cultivar guidance](https://www.monrovia.com/desert-eve-red-yarrow.html) says established landscape plants tolerate periodic dry spells; container plants continue to need regular water. ## Maintenance Deadhead to encourage further flowering and limit seed spread, or leave selected stems for winter structure. Cut untidy foliage back in spring. Divide older clumps if they become congested; the RHS recommends division in spring for this cultivar.
