About NEW VINTAGE™ Violet Yarrow

NEW VINTAGE™ Violet is the trade name for Achillea millefolium ‘Balvinolet’, an upright yarrow with finely divided foliage and violet-red flower clusters. Its color softens as the blooms age, and it can flower again after the first display. ## Flowers and garden use [Ball’s grower profile](https://info.ballseed.com/WEBTRACKPLANTINFO.ASPX?PHID=000406781005764&env=P) lists flowering from late spring through summer and autumn; local timing varies. Use it in sunny borders, containers, and cutting gardens. [Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/achillea/new-vintage-violet-yarrow-achillea-millefolium) reports fragrant foliage, bees and butterflies visiting the flowers, and deer resistance. Its stems suit fresh or dried arrangements. ## Size and siting Mature-size reports differ: Ball and Proven Winners give 26–28 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide, while the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/354026/achillea-millefolium-new-vintage-violet-balvinviolet-new-vintage-series/details) describes a plant to about 50 cm and lists a broader mature-height range of 0.1–0.5 m. Allow for this variation when placing it. The [patent](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP25750) separately measured plants after ten weeks in outdoor containers; those young trial measurements are not mature garden dimensions. Plant in full sun with good drainage. Avoid overly rich soil, which can encourage flopping. Water new plants during establishment, then adjust irrigation to soil moisture; Ball lists light water needs, while Proven Winners lists average water. ## Maintenance After the first flowers fade, cut the flowering stems back by about half to encourage another flush, following Proven Winners’ guidance. RHS recommends regular deadheading to prolong flowering. Keep the root zone draining freely, especially in winter.
