The Pearl brings double white flowerheads above narrow green foliage through summer. This perennial sneezewort adds a light, airy effect to flower borders and provides stems for fresh or dried arrangements.
## Flowers and garden use
The [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/achillea-ptarmica-pearl-pearl-sneezewort) records early- to late-summer bloom on stems 18–24 inches high. It also reports visits from bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, and resistance to deer and rabbits. Plant it in beds or borders where its white flowers can mingle with other summer perennials.
## Growing conditions
Use well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. The Pearl is available as open-pollinated seed and as clonal plants, with differences in mature size and moisture preferences. [Johnny's Selected Seeds](https://www.johnnyseeds.com/flowers/yarrow/the-pearl-yarrow-seed-4735.html) describes established seed-grown plants as tolerant of heat and low-water conditions. The [RHS clonal profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/54852/achillea-ptarmica-the-pearl-group-the-pearl-clonal-d/details) recommends partial shade and moist soil that does not become waterlogged. Follow the growing guidance supplied with your plants.
## Maintenance
For seed-grown plants, Johnny's recommends cutting stems to a few inches after the first flower flush to encourage another crop, and dividing clumps every three to four years. For the clonal selection, RHS recommends spring division and cutting back untidy foliage in spring.
