Create design onlineAbout Twin Flower Agave Plant
Agave geminiflora, twin-flowered agave, forms a compact evergreen rosette of hundreds of narrow, dark green leaves, often edged with fine white filaments. Its symmetrical, finely textured form suits a gravel garden or a large, well-drained container as an architectural accent. Mature plants send up a tall flower spike with paired yellow flowers; the rosette flowers once and then dies, though basal suckers may continue the planting.
## Garden use and growing conditions
Plan for a mature rosette roughly 2–3 ft tall and wide; the Royal Horticultural Society gives a broader 0.5–1 m range. Grow in full sun or partial shade with sharply drained, preferably rocky or sandy soil. Water sparingly during active growth and keep the plant dry through winter; protect outdoor specimens from winter wet. The [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/agave-geminiflora-twin-flowered-agave) rates it for USDA zones 9–11 and reports that established plants tolerate drought. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/194892/agave-geminiflora/details) notes cold tolerance to about −5°C when drainage is excellent, but that is not a USDA-zone conversion.
## Maintenance
No routine pruning is needed. Allow space around the pointed leaves, and use gloves when handling because agave sap and foliage can irritate skin. After the mature rosette flowers and declines, remove it if needed; retain any basal offsets that are part of the planting.
