‘Burgundy Glow’ is a spreading, evergreen bugleweed grown for its changing foliage: new leaves show pink and silver-white with green and purple, then deepen toward bronze in fall. Short spikes of blue flowers rise above the low carpet in late spring and early summer ([Darwin Perennials](https://www.darwinperennials.com/Products/Details/?phid=002101249000896), [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/96488/ajuga-reptans-burgundy-glow-v/details)).
## Landscape Use
Use this cultivar as groundcover along a shaded border, on a bank, or in a patio container where the variegated foliage can be seen close up. Its runners fill open soil and can help suppress weeds, but Ajuga reptans can spread beyond the planting area; avoid placing it beside a lawn or a mixed perennial bed where removal would be difficult. Regional behavior varies, so check local guidance before planting.
## Growing Conditions
Partial shade helps prevent the pale foliage from scorching, though the RHS notes it tolerates shade. Give it moist, reasonably drained soil and water during establishment and extended dry spells. The breeder lists a light water requirement and USDA zones 3a–9b. RHS reports approximately 15 cm height and a 0.5–1 m spread class; the breeder gives 3–6 inches high and 18–36 inches wide, so mature dimensions vary among conditions and references. The broader species blooms in mid to late spring and tolerates a range of light, but avoid heavy, persistently wet soil where crown rot can occur ([North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/ajuga-reptans/)).
## Maintenance
Water new plantings until established. Remove damaged leaves for appearance and divide rooted runners if a patch becomes crowded. Routine pruning is not required; check the edges occasionally to keep the groundcover within its allotted space.
