About Princess Nadia Variegated Ajuga

Princess Nadia is a compact Ajuga tenorii selected for variegated foliage and abundant blue-purple flower spikes. Sold under the name Princess Nadia, its cultivar denomination is ‘Piotrek01’; it forms a tight cushion suitable for borders, small groundcover areas, and containers. ## Foliage and flowers The breeder describes cream-purple leaves with glowing pink edges, blue spikes in spring, and a lighter repeat bloom in late summer. The plant patent describes bright pink new shoots and purple flowers; foliage and color intensity can vary with light and temperature. Compared with the broader, more open Ajuga reptans habit, this selection forms a denser, controlled mound. ## Siting and soil Monrovia lists USDA zones 4–9 and full sun to partial sun. Provide organically rich, moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then keep moisture even during dry weather. It can fill a small bed edge or the spaces under shrubs, but give it room to spread and keep runners out of nearby lawn or higher-maintenance beds. The specific cultivar is described as more controlled than common Ajuga; regional behavior still depends on conditions. ## Maintenance Remove damaged leaves and trim or divide the mat only if it grows beyond its allotted space. No routine shaping is needed. The cultivar is ‘Piotrek01’ (US PP31,028), marketed as Princess Nadia; the breeder is Nadia Plants.
