Akebia quinata, commonly known as the Chocolate Vine, is a vigorous, twining woody climber reaching up to 40 feet. It features elegant, palmately compound blue-green leaves with five leaflets, remaining semi-evergreen in warmer climates. In spring, it produces dangling clusters of brownish-purple, chocolate-scented flowers, followed by unusual sausage-shaped edible fruit. Ideal for trellises or as a dense groundcover, it thrives in full sun to deep shade and well-drained soil.
