Spring Celebrities Rose Hollyhock

Spring Celebrities Rose is a compact, upright hollyhock with rose-pink flowers and a branching habit that produces a fuller display than traditional tall hollyhocks. Takii’s Spring Celebrities series is selected for first-year flowering and may bloom for several months when growing conditions are favorable. ## Form and flowering The Rose selection is part of a dwarf series usually reaching about 24–32 inches tall and 12–18 inches wide. Its large semi-double to double flowers rise above the foliage and suit sunny beds, borders, and large containers. Takii’s production sheet gives a broad May-to-October flowering window; actual timing varies with sowing date, climate, and site. ## Placement and growing Plant in full sun in moderately fertile, well-drained soil, and leave enough space for air to move through the foliage. The species is generally a biennial or short-lived perennial, while Spring Celebrities is marketed as an annual crop that can flower in its first year. Hollyhock rust is a common issue for the species, particularly when foliage stays humid. ## Maintenance Water during dry weather and remove rust-infected leaves and dead foliage after flowering. Spacing plants to improve airflow helps reduce humidity around leaves. The [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/344132/alcea-rosea-spring-celebrities-pink-spring-celebrities-series-d/details) notes rust susceptibility in a related Spring Celebrities selection, and [Utah State University Extension](https://extension.usu.edu/planthealth/ipm/ornamental-pest-guide/diseases/rusts) recommends removing infected material.
