Allagoptera campestris is a small South American palm with a very short or subterranean stem and gently arching, feather-like fronds. The [National Parks Board of Singapore](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/florafaunaweb/flora/2/5/2585) describes dark green leaf tops with silvery undersides and cream flower spikes; [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/8521-2) accepts the species from Brazil to northeastern Argentina, while Noblick’s [palm guide](https://www.botanica.org.br/wp-content/uploads/Guide-to-the-Palms-of-Northeastern-Brazil_LNoblick.pdf) places it mainly in inland Cerrado and Campo Rupestre vegetation. ## Garden use The palm’s compact stem and plumose foliage suit a warm-climate, dry garden or a focal position where the leaf form can be seen. NParks lists it as a coastal landscape plant, but also says it performs best in full sun and well-drained, dry, rocky or sandy soil. Its fruits are yellow to brown and single-seeded; NParks notes they are edible only before maturity. ## Growing conditions Provide full sun and fast drainage. The species occurs in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay and is adapted to seasonally dry settings. NParks reports seed germination can be erratic over three to six months and lists rhizome division as another propagation method. ## Maintenance Keep the crown clear of damaged foliage and avoid persistently wet soil. Water new plantings while they establish, then adjust watering to local heat and rainfall. Do not assume frost tolerance or a USDA zone from its broad South American distribution.
