About Blue Twister Flowering Onion

Blue Twister is a named selection of *Allium senescens*, valued for curled, blue-green foliage as well as its lavender-pink flowers. University of Wisconsin Extension describes the cultivar at about 12–18 inches tall and 8–12 inches wide; Red Butte Garden lists it at roughly one foot in both directions. ## Landscape Use and Seasonal Interest The tight clumps work along a border edge, in a rock garden or near the front of a mixed planting, where the twisted leaves add a distinct texture. The flowers rise above the foliage in rounded clusters, and the cultivar is described as long-blooming. The exact flower window can shift with climate, so use local observations for seasonal planning. ## Siting Plant in full sun for stronger flowering; light shade is tolerated. The species accepts a range of soils from heavier clay to sandy loam, and its natural dry, rocky habitat supports drought tolerance after establishment. Wisconsin Extension reports hardiness through zones 4a–8b; Red Butte Garden lists zones 4–8. ## Maintenance Established clumps enlarge slowly and do not need frequent division. Divide in early spring or fall if a clump needs renewal.
