Mythic® Red Secret is a marketed Alocasia cuprea grown for compact, sculptural leaves with copper and deep burgundy tones. This tropical foliage plant suits a warm indoor display or protected greenhouse, where its glossy, strongly veined leaves can be seen at close range. Give it filtered light, humid air, and an airy mix that drains freely.
## Foliage and placement
Proven Winners identifies Mythic® Red Secret as Alocasia cuprea in its [leafjoy catalog](https://www.provenwinners.com/sites/provenwinners.com/files/catalogs_pdfs/pw_leafjoy_s-f_2024_catalog_final.pdf). The cultivar is notable for thick, reflective foliage with dark coppery upper surfaces and rich burgundy tones, rather than uniformly bright red leaves. Use it as a focal container plant in a warm room or greenhouse. Keep it away from cold drafts and strong direct sun, which can scorch tender leaves.
## Growing conditions
Grow in a moisture-retentive but well-drained houseplant mix. Keep the root zone evenly moist during active growth, but empty saucers so the pot never sits in water. Alocasias benefit from humid air and warmth; reduce watering during a winter slowdown, as described in the [RHS growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/alocasia/growing-guide). Leave room around the plant so its leaves can spread without crowding nearby foliage. Alocasias contain calcium oxalate crystals, so keep the plant away from children and pets.
## Maintenance
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves as needed, using clean tools and gloves to limit skin irritation. Check foliage for spider mites or mealybugs, especially in warm indoor conditions.
