Aloe aculeata is a robust, stemless succulent forming a solitary rosette up to one meter tall. Its glaucous green leaves are uniquely covered in reddish-brown spines set upon pale bases, giving it a distinctively prickly appearance. Native to rocky grasslands of Southern Africa, it produces spectacular orange or yellow flower spikes in winter.
