About Easter Bonnet Violet Alyssum

Easter Bonnet Violet is a compact sweet alyssum covered in fragrant violet flowers, with an early season display and a neat, spreading form. It works as a colorful low border, a filler among taller plants, or a soft spill at the edge of a pot. ## Landscape Use [PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/003500482005764/alyssum-easter-bonnet-violet/) lists Violet in its Easter Bonnet series and describes the plants as uniform, early, and tidy longer than many alyssums. The breeder reports a mounded, spreading, trailing habit and a typical 4–10 inch height with a 10–12 inch spread. Plant it at the front of a bed, along a path, or in a container where its low stems can trail. ## Growing Conditions Provide sun and well-drained soil. Species guidance from [UW–Madison Extension](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/sweet-alyssum-lobularia-maritima/) notes that alyssum performs well in full sun in cool climates and may benefit from partial shade in hotter areas. Keep soil moderately moist, particularly while plants establish and in containers. Bloom often declines in summer heat and can resume as temperatures moderate. ## Maintenance Water when the soil begins to dry, without leaving roots in saturated soil. Lightly shear plants if flowers thin or stems become untidy; remove the annual planting after its seasonal display.
