Lustre® Serviceberry Tree

Lustre® is the trade name for the Allegheny serviceberry selection ‘Rogers’. This small deciduous tree offers early-spring flowers, edible blue fruit, and autumn foliage color, with a more upright tree form than a typical multistem serviceberry. ## Landscape use and seasonal interest Use it as a specimen, small shade tree, or wildlife planting where the spring flowers and fruit can be enjoyed. Nursery references describe a mature tree roughly 18–25 feet tall and 12–18 feet wide; form and site conditions affect the final size. White flowers appear in early spring, followed by green foliage that darkens through summer. Blue fruit develops in late spring or early summer, and leaves turn dark yellow to orange in fall. ## Siting and care Lustre® is listed for USDA zones 4–8. Choose full sun to part shade and soil that is moist but well drained; avoid prolonged waterlogging. Regular water is useful while the root system establishes. The fruit is edible and can also attract birds, while the flowers support visiting bees and butterflies. ## Maintenance Prune selectively to remove damaged or crossing branches and to preserve the desired tree form. Allow the crown to develop naturally rather than shearing it. Remove fallen fruit from paths if it becomes slippery or attracts unwanted wildlife.
