Robin Hill Serviceberry Tree

‘Robin Hill’ is an upright, deciduous serviceberry with pink flower buds that open to pale pink flowers and fade to white. Bronze spring foliage turns green for summer, then develops orange and red autumn color; dark purple berries follow the flowers. This small tree brings a clear spring display and useful fall color to a garden. ## Landscape use and size Use it as a specimen or small flowering tree where its spreading crown has room to mature. The Royal Horticultural Society lists an ultimate height and spread of 4–8 metres, a broad range that reflects the space needed for a mature tree. Flowers are followed by edible berries, though fruit set varies and birds may take much of the crop. ## Siting and seasonal interest Full sun gives the best autumn color; partial shade is tolerated. Grow in moist, well-drained soil, preferably loam or sand. The cultivar is a selection of *Amelanchier × grandiflora*, a hybrid between *A. arborea* and *A. laevis*. It is recognized by its pink-tinged buds and upright tree habit. Prune in late winter only to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches; avoid unnecessary shaping.
