Create design onlineAbout Sirocco ColorGrass® Anemanthele
ColorGrass® Anemanthele Sirocco is a seed-grown ornamental grass selected for fine movement and foliage that shifts from green toward copper and pink in cool weather. Its mounded, arching clump suits mixed containers, borders, and informal plantings, while the airy flower stems add a light texture from midsummer into autumn.
## Form and Season
At about 0.4 m (16 inches) tall and 0.6 m (24 inches) wide, Sirocco sits between two useful size references: PanAmerican Seed reports compact production plants at 12–14 inches tall and 22–24 inches wide, while the RHS gives a broader mature height range of 0.5–1 m. Final size varies with age and growing conditions. The RHS describes it as semi-evergreen, with green leaves streaked orange-brown in summer and turning orange-brown in winter. Pendent flower panicles carry purplish-green spikelets. This cultivar is sold as part of the ColorGrass® collection.
## Site and Planting
Grow in full sun for the strongest color, though partial shade is tolerated. Use fertile, moist but well-drained soil; avoid waterlogged containers. Its compact scale works at the edge of a border, in a gravel garden, or in a planter where its arching foliage can spill slightly over the rim. [PanAmerican Seed’s product page](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/120106635019685/colorgrass-anemanthele-sirocco/) supplies the exact cultivar and production dimensions; the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/323405/anemanthele-lessoniana-sirocco/details) adds seasonal appearance, hardiness context, and care guidance. The RHS H4 rating is a UK rating and is not used as a USDA zone conversion.
## Maintenance
In early spring, rake through the clump to remove dead leaves and allow fresh growth to emerge. The RHS reports no pruning is required. Divide in spring if the clump needs rejuvenation or propagation, and water regularly while plants establish.
