Grecian windflower (*Anemone blanda*) is a compact, tuberous perennial that opens daisy-like violet-blue, pink, or white flowers above finely divided foliage in spring. Its low spreading growth can form a colorful carpet beneath deciduous shrubs and trees or in drifts near the front of a border ([RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/25512/anemone-blanda/details); [RHS spring-anemone guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/anemone/spring-flowering/growing-guide)).
## Form and placement
Plants emerge in spring, flower early, then die back as they enter summer dormancy. Published size references differ: the RHS plant profile describes a height around 15 cm, while its size selector gives a broad 10–50 cm maximum-height band. Use it for woodland edges, rock gardens, informal borders, or containers where the soil drains freely.
## Growing conditions
Give it sun or partial shade and humus-rich, well-drained soil. It tolerates some shade and can naturalize over time; spring bulbs and deciduous plantings leave room for its short seasonal display. Avoid persistently wet ground, especially while tubers are dormant.
## Maintenance
Water new plantings until established, without keeping the soil saturated. Allow foliage to yellow naturally after flowering so the tubers can replenish before dormancy; remove it once it has faded. The RHS notes no routine pruning is required. Handle with care, since the RHS warns that contact may irritate skin and ingestion may cause stomach upset.
