About Mona Lisa® Scarlet Eye Anemone

Mona Lisa® Scarlet Eye is an upright, cool-season selection of Anemone coronaria with vivid scarlet flowers carried on strong stems. PanAmerican Seed lists it at about 18 inches tall and 6 inches wide, with early-spring and autumn flowering, and recommends the Mona Lisa® series for cut-flower production. ## Seasonal display and siting The scarlet flowers suit a sheltered border, container, or dedicated cutting bed, where their strong color can be repeated in groups. The breeder lists partial-sun exposure and greenhouse or high-tunnel production; in outdoor gardens, sun or light shade and protection from harsh conditions suit the species. Bloom timing shifts with climate and planting schedule. [PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/004800948004948/anemone-mona-lisa-scarlet-eye/) identifies this selection as Scarlet Eye (PAS1866), within its Mona Lisa® F1 series. ## Growing conditions Anemone coronaria needs free-draining soil and should not remain waterlogged, especially during dormancy. Water as needed during active growth, then allow a drier summer rest after flowering as foliage dies back. In cold regions, grow it as a seasonal annual or protect dormant tubers from hard frost and excess winter wet. The [RHS guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/anemone/spring-flowering/growing-guide) and [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/anemone-coronaria/common-name/spanish-marigold/) describe the species’ garden care and seasonal cycle. ## Maintenance Water newly planted tubers until established and during active growth when rainfall is insufficient. Harvest stems when buds are colored and partly open. Keep foliage until it yellows naturally, then reduce water while the tuber rests. PanAmerican Seed notes that Mona Lisa® plants do not need staking, netting, or disbudding for cut-flower production.
