HARLEQUIN™ ‘Cameo’ is a compact Japanese anemone with a rounded mound of deep green foliage followed by bright pink, fluted flowers. Introduced by Terra Nova Nurseries in 2024, it blooms from midsummer through fall and makes a close, bouquet-like display at the front of a border or in a large container.
## Flowers and form
The foliage mound is about 14 inches tall, while flowering stems can reach roughly 26 inches; the plant spreads about 18 inches wide. Terra Nova lists USDA zones 4–9, full sun to part shade, pink flowers, green foliage, a clumping habit, and moderate growth. It describes the selection as less prone to rampant spreading than many traditional Japanese anemones, though nearby shoots should still be checked as the plant establishes.
## Siting
Give Cameo rich, moisture-retentive soil that drains well. It grows in sun or partial shade, with more protection from strong afternoon sun in hot climates. Japanese anemones flower late in the season and provide color as many summer perennials fade. The [RHS growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/anemone/japanese/growing-guide) recommends fertile soil that does not dry out or remain waterlogged, and notes that Japanese anemones can spread by roots.
## Cultivar and sources
Cameo belongs to Terra Nova’s HARLEQUIN™ series. The [Terra Nova cultivar profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/anemone-harlequin-cameo/) gives its dimensions, bloom months, exposure, and growth traits; the [2024 introduction listing](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/about-us/introductions/) confirms the introduction year. No plant patent or EU grant is listed on the breeder profile.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and during prolonged dry spells; container plants need closer attention because their mix dries faster. Apply a spring mulch of compost to help hold moisture. Leave the old stems through winter if they provide shelter, then remove dead foliage and flower stems in early spring before new shoots emerge.
