About Honorine Jobert Anemone

‘Honorine Jobert’ is a classic white Japanese anemone, with elegant flowers held above a broad mound of green, three-lobed leaves. It brings a bright, airy display to the middle or back of a partly shaded border from late summer into autumn and has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. ## Size and Garden Use The RHS describes a clump-forming plant about 1.2 metres tall, with a mature range of 1–1.5 metres high by 0.5–1 metre wide. The Morton Arboretum gives a somewhat smaller range of 3–4 feet tall by 2–3 feet wide. Its wiry stems carry single white flowers with yellow centers; the RHS profile also describes semi-double flowers. Use it where the late-season stems can rise behind lower perennials, and leave room for a clump to widen. The flowers are suitable for cutting. ## Siting and Soil Grow in full sun or partial shade, in soil that stays moist but drains well. North Carolina State Extension notes that Japanese anemones spread by rhizomes; avoid dry soil and watch the margins where the plant could crowd nearby perennials. It can be grown in fertile beds, informal borders, and naturalized areas. The cultivar is listed as ‘Honorine Jobert’ by the [RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/95098/anemone-%C3%97-hybrida-honorine-jobert/details), which provides its dimensions, position and flower description. ## Maintenance Water during dry spells and while new plantings establish. Cut down old flower stems after bloom. Check for rhizomes beyond the desired clump and remove them, or divide rooted sections when the planting becomes crowded.
