About Wild Swan™ Hybrid Anemone

Wild Swan™ is a long-flowering hybrid anemone selected by Scottish plantswoman Elizabeth MacGregor. White flowers with lilac-blue to violet-blue bands on the reverse rise above a neat mound of green foliage, opening through the day and nodding as they close at dusk. ## Appearance and placement The flower display begins in late spring or early summer and can continue into fall, with timing shaped by climate. Use it in a perennial border, woodland edge, or grouped planting where its unusually long season is visible; it also suits cutting. Unlike some Japanese anemones, the breeder reports that Wild Swan stays in place rather than invading neighboring plants. [Elizabeth MacGregor Nursery](https://elizabethmacgregornursery.co.uk/content.php?id=119) documents its selection and garden behavior. [Monrovia](https://www.monrovia.com/wild-swan-hybrid-anemone.html) identifies the Macane001 cultivar and describes the white flowers, blue-violet reverse, and extended bloom. ## Growing conditions Give it fertile, humus-rich soil that remains evenly moist while draining freely. Dappled shade is useful in hot regions; it also grows in sun where the soil does not dry out. Water regularly during establishment. The filed cultivar patent describes an upright, mounding perennial about 40–60 cm tall, while nursery listings vary in reported size, so allow room for a compact clump rather than relying on a single universal measurement. The cultivar is protected by U.S. plant patent PP 23,132; the grant publication is dated October 23, 2012. ## Maintenance Mulch to conserve soil moisture while keeping mulch clear of the crown. Remove old foliage before new leaves emerge in spring. Divide congested clumps every few years in early spring if needed.
