About Alonia™ Big Cherry Angelonia angustifolia

Alonia™ Big Cherry is an upright Angelonia in Danziger’s ALONIA™ series, with large cherry-red flowers on a compact plant. The breeder identifies it as early flowering, heat tolerant, and pollinator friendly, and lists it for both pots and landscape plantings. ## Flowers and Landscape Use Its upright flower spikes suit sunny borders, repeated groups, and mixed containers. Danziger lists mature dimensions of 14–16 inches tall by 12–14 inches wide and notes that plants continue to gain size in the garden. Angelonia typically flowers through summer and into fall in warm conditions. Angelonia tolerates summer heat and humidity and is usually used as a warm-season annual in regions with cold winters; in mild climates it may persist as a perennial. ## Maintenance Water through establishment and during extended dry weather. NC State reports that angelonia does not need deadheading. Check occasionally for aphids and powdery mildew, especially in crowded beds.
