About Serena® Purple Angelonia

Serena® Purple is a compact, upright angelonia for sunny beds and containers, with purple snapdragon-like flowers that continue from late spring through summer. [PanAmerican Seed]() lists it as a Serena® F1 seed variety, a series bred for season-long color and hot-weather performance. ## Landscape use Its columnar, mounded habit gives borders and mixed containers a vertical accent without a large footprint. The [PanAmerican Seed profile]() lists mature dimensions of 16–20 inches tall by 12–14 inches wide, and notes that plants can grow larger in hot, humid regions. ## Seasonal interest and siting Expect flowers from late spring into late summer. Give it full sun and moist, fertile soil that drains well; [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/angelonia-angustifolia/) notes that angelonia tolerates summer heat and humidity. Water during establishment. Once established, it can handle dry spells better, especially in mulched soil, as described by [UF/IFAS](https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/ornamentals/angelonia/). In cold-winter climates it is commonly grown as a warm-season annual. ## Maintenance [Ball Seed's cultivar record]() rates Serena Purple as low maintenance and deer resistant. Faded flowers do not need routine removal: NC State Extension says angelonia does not require deadheading. Avoid waterlogged soil, and watch for aphids or powdery mildew in crowded or humid conditions.
