Kanga Red is a compact, evergreen kangaroo paw with upright green foliage and fuzzy tubular flower stalks bearing rich red blooms. The UC Davis Arboretum lists this selection at about 2 feet tall with flowers from spring through fall, making it useful in a sunny border or container where its sculptural stems can be seen.
## Form and placement
The [UC Davis Arboretum plant list](https://arboretum.ucdavis.edu/sites/g/files/dgvnsk1546/files/inline-files/April_8_2021_Final_Availability%20%281%29.pdf) identifies *Anigozanthos* ‘Kanga Red’ and describes red tubular flowers, evergreen growth to 2 feet, and part-to-full sun. The [Green Fuse Kanga series page](https://green-fuse.com/new/anigozanthos-kanga/) confirms Red as a color selection in the branded Kanga series. Narrow leaves form a basal clump beneath the flower spikes; use it singly or in a small group, and allow room for airflow around the foliage.
## Siting and water
Choose full sun or light shade with sharply drained soil. UC Davis notes drought tolerance once established. Green Fuse’s [Kanga culture report](https://green-fuse.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Anigozanthos-Kanga%C2%AE.pdf) calls for free-draining media and letting it dry between irrigations, especially in cool, low-light conditions. Avoid waterlogged soil.
## Maintenance
Remove finished flower spikes low at the base and pull away dead or diseased leaves. The fine hairs on drying flowers can irritate skin and eyes, so wear gloves and eye protection when cutting them back.
