About Maryland Royal Snapdragon

Maryland Royal is an upright, tall-stemmed snapdragon in PanAmerican Seed’s Maryland cut-flower series. The breeder lists 39–60-inch stems and classifies it in Groups 1 and 2, which are suited to cool-season production under relatively low light and temperature. See [PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/057800892004760/snapdragon-maryland-royal/) for this cultivar’s production details and [University of Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/snapdragon) for garden-care guidance. ## Garden use Use the vertical flower spikes in a sunny border or cut-flower bed, where their height can rise above lower annuals. The name Royal identifies the specific color selection, but the sources reviewed here do not give a more precise hue description. The Maryland series is intended for greenhouse and high-tunnel production as well as seasonal garden use. ## Growing conditions Provide full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Snapdragons usually give their best garden performance in cooler weather; high temperatures can limit flowering and stem quality. Keep soil evenly moist during establishment and dry spells, without leaving roots in waterlogged soil. Published stem length is a production measure and may differ from garden height. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower spikes to encourage continued flowering and maintain a tidy planting. Tall stems may need staking, especially in exposed sites or when grown for cutting.
