About Oil Shale Columbine

Aquilegia barnebyi is a clumping perennial reaching up to 31 inches in height with a similar spread. It features delicate, glaucous, blue-green foliage that is finely divided, resembling maidenhair ferns. This hardy species produces nodding, bicolored flowers with pink sepals and yellow petals, attracting hummingbirds and bees. Ideally suited for rock gardens or pollinator borders, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, moist to moderately dry soils.
