Earlybird™ White is a compact hybrid columbine with white spurred flowers above a mound of divided green foliage. Its restrained color and small scale suit a border front, woodland edge, or container, especially where the flowers can be seen up close.
## Flowers and size
PanAmerican Seed identifies this selection as ‘PAS1258490’ and lists a height of 9–11 inches, spread of 8–10 inches, and flowering from early spring through summer. The breeder’s [Earlybird White page](https://www.panamseed.com/products/005709017005863/aquilegia-earlybird-white/) confirms the cultivar identity and series size and season. The [RHS guide to Aquilegia](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/aquilegia/growing-guide) describes the genus’s spurred blooms and advises fertile, moist but freely draining soil.
## Siting
Plant in sun or partial shade. Keep the soil from becoming bone dry in summer, while ensuring excess water can drain away; columbines do not suit persistently waterlogged ground.
## Maintenance
Water new plants through establishment. After flowering, remove faded stems for a tidier look and less self-seeding, or leave some seed heads if you want seedlings; hybrids may not come true from seed. Cut back old foliage when it yellows.
