Earlybird™ Purple Yellow is a compact hybrid columbine with purple and yellow flowers over divided green foliage. It suits the front of a border or a container, where its bright bicolor blooms can be enjoyed close up.
## Flowers and size
PanAmerican Seed identifies the cultivar as ‘PAS1258488’, with a listed height of 9–11 inches, spread of 8–10 inches, and bloom season from early spring through summer. The breeder notes this color blooms five to seven days later than the series average and grows about two inches taller than its series companions. See the [PanAmerican Seed cultivar page](https://www.panamseed.com/products/005709017004402/aquilegia-earlybird-purple-yellow/) for those selection details and the [RHS Aquilegia guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/aquilegia/growing-guide) for the genus’s spurred flowers and general seasonal pattern.
## Siting
Choose sun or partial shade and fertile, moist but freely draining soil. Avoid a site that remains waterlogged or dries hard in summer; the compact habit works well at the front of a mixed planting or in a pot with drainage.
## Maintenance
Keep young plants watered while they establish. After flowering, remove faded stems to tidy the clump or leave some seed heads if you want seedlings; hybrid seedlings may differ from the parent. Cut back yellowing old leaves as needed.
