About Snowcap Rockcress

‘Snowcap’ is a low, evergreen rockcress that forms a spreading mat of toothed grey-green leaves. In spring, its compact foliage is topped by masses of small, fragrant white flowers, making it useful where early color can be seen close up. ## Garden Use The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/541206/arabis-caucasica-schneehaube/details) lists *Arabis alpina* ‘Snowcap’ as a synonym of *A. caucasica* ‘Schneehaube’ and describes an evergreen, mat-forming perennial to about 20 cm tall. The [Colorado State University perennial trial](https://agsci.colostate.edu/landscapeplants/wp-content/uploads/sites/57/2016/02/Perennial_2015_Report.pdf) records ‘Snowcap’ specifically, with white flowers and a mound habit, and recommends it for rock gardens, borders, and xeriscapes. It can soften the rim of a raised bed or fill a sunny crevice, provided its crown drains freely. ## Siting Choose sun and well-drained soil; the RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand when drainage is adequate. Avoid prolonged wetness around the crown. Its broad mat may extend well beyond the flower height, so give it room at the edge of a path or between stones. ## Maintenance Trim lightly after flowering if stems become loose or woody. Remove damaged foliage and keep neighboring plants from covering the low mat. No verified patent information was located for this cultivar.
