Araucaria araucana is a slow-growing, long-lived evergreen conifer native to the volcanic slopes of the Andes. It features a distinctive symmetrical habit with thick, horizontal branches covered in sharp, scale-like, triangular leaves. This "living fossil" thrives in temperate oceanic climates with well-drained soil and high rainfall. Beyond its ornamental appeal, it produces large edible seeds known as piñones and holds deep cultural significance for the indigenous Mapuche people.
