Arctic Fire® Yellow is a red-twig dogwood selection distinguished by bright yellow stems that color the landscape in late fall and winter. Its small white spring flowers may develop into white berries in late summer or early fall when pollinated. [Spring Meadow Nursery](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/arctic-fire-yellow-18790) identifies the cultivar as ‘SMNCSBD’ (PP32,351).
## Seasonal Interest
This deciduous shrub has green foliage and white spring flowers, with yellow stems as its principal ornamental feature. The breeder lists mature dimensions of 4–5 feet tall by 6 feet wide, USDA zones 2–7, and full sun or part sun. It is a selection of Cornus sericea, also known as C. stolonifera.
## Growing Conditions
The shrub does best in moist or wet soil and tolerates dry conditions after establishment. It can be planted in groups, hedges, rain gardens, foundation plantings, or cutting gardens; its stems also suit fall and winter arrangements. The breeder lists salt tolerance.
## Maintenance
For the strongest stem color, keep mostly young stems. In spring, either cut the plant back to stumps or remove about one-third of the oldest stems at ground level. Cutting the whole shrub removes that year’s flowers.
