This vigorous, mat-forming evergreen shrub is a standout selection from Colorado's Uncompaghre Plateau. Reaching up to two feet tall and spreading eight feet wide, it features leathery, dark green oval leaves that emerge with a reddish tint. In early spring, delicate pink-tinged white flowers appear, followed by red berries. Its most striking feature is the smooth, exfoliating cinnamon-red bark. Ideal for slopes and xeric landscapes, it thrives in well-drained, gritty soil and full sun.
