Armeria maritima 'Splendens' is a compact evergreen perennial that forms a tuft of narrow, grass-like leaves and rounded deep-pink flower heads. The Royal Horticultural Society reports flowering in late spring and summer, a mature height up to about 20 cm, full-sun exposure and drought resistance; garden references also recommend it for edging and rock gardens.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun and sharply drained soil. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/44341/armeria-maritima-splendens/details/) lists chalk, clay, loam and sand, provided moisture drains freely. The [University of Wisconsin Horticulture profile](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/sea-thrift-armeria-maritima/) identifies 'Splendens' by its deep-pink flowers. Allow air and drainage around the evergreen crown, especially through wet winters. Water during establishment; established plants tolerate dry periods.
## Seasonal display
Rounded flower clusters rise above the foliage from late spring into summer. The RHS lists this cultivar for pollinators and coastal sites, and notes that it suits rock gardens, troughs, front-of-border planting and edging. Its compact tuft works well at the edge of gravel beds or between stones.
## Maintenance
Remove faded flower stems if a tidier appearance is desired; deadheading may encourage another flush. The RHS says routine pruning is not required. Divide established clumps when they become congested, and avoid persistently wet soil around the crown.
