Armeria pseudarmeria 'Ballerina Red' is a compact evergreen perennial in the Ballerina series, producing rounded red flower heads on short, sturdy stems above a low cushion of lance-shaped leaves. Fleuroselect awarded the cultivar a Gold Medal for its compact, uniform habit and first-year flowering; the [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/314700/armeria-pseudarmeria-ballerina-red-ballerina-series/details) describes red flower heads in late spring and summer.
## Siting and growth
Grow in full sun and well-drained soil. Fleuroselect reports a 20 cm plant height and 15 cm spread in its technical information, while the [PanAmerican Seed catalog](https://www.panamseed.com/documents/catalogs/13123-2014PanAmericanSeed-Catalogue.pdf) gives a broader Ballerina series range of 8–10 inches tall and wide. These sources describe different production contexts, so expect some variation in the mature size of this compact clump.
## Bloom and placement
This cultivar bears red flower globes from early summer into fall in Fleuroselect’s trials. The RHS recommends it for rock gardens, troughs, front-of-border planting and edging. Its neat mound suits sunny borders, gravel gardens and containers where the vivid flowers can rise above the foliage.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment, then allow the well-drained soil to dry somewhat between waterings. Remove spent flower stems to tidy the plant and extend the display where rebloom occurs. Keep the crown from sitting in wet soil, especially over winter.
