Artemisia ludoviciana ‘Valerie Finnis’ is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial grown for its pale, aromatic foliage. The lance-shaped leaves are coarsely toothed and vividly white when young, becoming silvery as they mature; small yellowish flowerheads are produced but have little ornamental impact. The Royal Horticultural Society gives a broad mature range of 0.5–1 m in both height and spread, so final size depends on conditions and how the clump is managed.
## Placement
Choose a sunny site with fertile, well-drained soil. This cultivar can work in gravel or prairie-style planting, Mediterranean-climate gardens, and flower borders, where the foliage makes a quiet contrast against greener or more colorful neighbors. It is deciduous, and the RHS recommends cutting it back to the base in autumn. Do not translate the RHS H6 rating directly into a USDA zone; the current catalog zone range is retained pending a compatible North American source.
The [RHS cultivar profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/90659/artemisia-ludoviciana-valerie-finnis/details) confirms the name, size range, foliage, light, drainage, and clump-forming habit. The [NC State species profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/artemisia-ludoviciana/common-name/white-sagebrush/) provides context for the parent species, which spreads by rhizomes; those species-level traits should not be assumed to describe this named selection in every garden.
## Maintenance
Keep the crown in free-draining soil, especially through wet winters. Remove faded stems and cut back after the growing season. Reassess the clump periodically and divide only if it becomes too large for its allotted space.
