Create design onlineAbout Misty Lace Goat's Beard
‘Misty Lace’ is a compact, rhizomatous Aruncus hybrid with fern-like green foliage, reddish stems, and feathery creamy-white flower plumes. The patent identifies it as a cross between A. dioicus and A. aethusifolius and records a mature height of 30–50 cm in the University of Georgia trial garden.
## Landscape Use
Use this smaller goat’s beard in a partly shaded border or woodland planting where its upright flower plumes can rise above lower foliage. The compact scale distinguishes it from taller species such as A. dioicus. The cultivar was selected by Allan Armitage and Hazel Wetzstein at the University of Georgia; USPP 15,798 was issued June 14, 2005. [Bailey Nurseries](https://shop.baileynurseries.com/Product/Detail/7274?availabilityDate=2026-03-03&returnUrl=%2FProduct%2FInventory%3Fcategory%3D60-PER) lists 18–24 inches high and wide, part sun, and zones 3–7. The [patent description](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP15798) supplies its hybrid identity and trial measurements.
## Seasonal Interest
The green, finely divided leaves form an attractive clump, while creamy plumes provide a light, feathery display in late spring and early summer. Flower timing varies with local climate. Its intermediate form combines traits of its dwarf and taller parent species.
## Siting
Plant in moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade; it was selected after evaluation under hot, humid southeastern conditions. The breeder source lists part sun and a 3–7 hardiness range. Keep the soil evenly moist during establishment and avoid treating that cultivar range as a guarantee for every microclimate.
## Maintenance
No particular recurring pruning schedule is established in the sources reviewed. Remove damaged stems when needed and divide only if the clump outgrows its allotted space.
