About Wild Ginger

Asarum europaeum, commonly known as European wild ginger, is a low-growing, creeping evergreen perennial that forms a dense carpet of glossy, dark green, kidney-shaped foliage. This slow-spreading plant is prized for its ability to thrive in deep shade where other plants struggle. In late spring, small, bell-shaped, brownish-purple flowers appear at ground level, though they are often hidden beneath the leathery leaves. It prefers moist, humus-rich, acidic soils in woodland settings.
