About Desert Milkweed

Asclepias subulata, commonly known as rush milkweed, is a unique desert perennial characterized by its architectural cluster of erect, gray-green stems. This virtually leafless plant produces small, linear leaves only after rainfall, which quickly drop to conserve moisture. From spring through fall, it displays terminal clusters of cream to pale yellow flowers that serve as a vital nectar source for monarchs and queen butterflies. Ideal for xeriscaping and poolside planting, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil.
